A m b i t i o n s ☆ Tour: ONE OK ROCK

HondaiMood: Ambitious !!!
Listening to: American Girls – ONE OK ROCK
Playing: Tetris App
Craving: Something filling but light
Watching: Late Night Lysee

wow Wow WOW.  WELCOME BACK TO SEATTLE!! I’m so glad I decided to see ONE OK ROCK again. At first I wasn’t going to go because they just played at the same exact venue in January.. Being in the K-pop mode lately doesn’t help me get into the mood to go to a rock concert either. Haha. But I went to see a local band called Tangerine in June and I felt the rock concert rush again and it got me hyped so I invited my Uni friend, whom we bonded over OOR, and my sister!

If you haven’t heard about ONE OK ROCK, and you love J-Rock, punk rock or any kind of rock rly, you must put aside some time to hear them out. Their music is filled with energy and their live performance makes everything BETTER. I think my most favorite thing about OOR, though, is the topic they sing about. There are just too many love songs out there… but OOR songs explores different topics especially coming of age and pure ambition. So the album titled Ambition is just so perfect for them.

Anyways, more going into the concert, this time’s show was 10x better than last show. I don’t know if it was because I decided to stay out of the pit or what, but the audience seemed more respectful. Except for one very powerful moment… While OOR was performing “Take What You Want”…. there was a long… a very l o n g silent.. waiting for everyone to quiet down. But there were these damn people on the bar area who just wont SHUT UP. Like HELLO? GET A CLUE. I wanted them to be escorted out SO BAD because they ruined such a great moment…. but I think the show recovered afterwards when everyone was being an awesome audience for the remaining so. Also, the encore moment was AWESOME. So many of us screaming “ONE MORE SONG” non-stop. They came out and played American Girl for encore and hell yes, it was the best.

And I would just like to end with an appreciation for my favorite band member, Guitarist Toru. I am still waiting for the day Toru would rap/sing in a song again.

Be Ready for G-Dragon’s Act III World Tour

HondaiMood: Melancholic (cuz I miss GD)
Listening to: Bullshit – G-Dragon
Playing: Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Craving: Ice Cream
Watching: GD Music videos LOL

My night with G-Dragon at Act III, M.O.T.T.E Seattle was unforgettable. It was amazing, and definitely worth the money. But there were somethings I wish I did before/during the show that would have definitely made my night more perfect than it already was.

Just in case some of you are newbies at K-pop concerts, I’m here to make sure you don’t make the same mistake I do when attending G-Dragon’s concert. I’ve never associated myself with any K-pop fan base as I don’t follow the scene nearly as much as I do with J-pop. Also, I don’t speak Korean nor can I sing it. Don’t get me wrong though, I LOVE G-Dragon. Him and his Big Bang mates are the few K-pop artists I actually listen to. If this sounds more and more like you? Great! Keep reading.

Make GD Proud

Step 1: Get to know his songs. (DUH)

Don’t be me.. There were some songs by him I didn’t listen to much… so when he started singing at the live it I felt kinda awkward. Mostly because I don’t understand Korean and hyping to a song you hear for the first time can be kinda hard, y’know? LOL Don’t have the time to get to know all his songs? No problem. Thanks to set lists, you can listen to songs that he’s more than highly likely going to be performing at the concert.

You can find a Youtube playlist here: ( ๑‾̀◡‾́)σ»

Step 2: Learn the fan chant

I mean, if you know how to sing the whole song, GO FOR IT. Sing along. But most of G-Dragon songs are raps. I know it’ll be super hard for me to learn lyrics for rap songs… especially in Korean hardihar. So best I could do is fan chants! I wish I knew more of the fan chants. When I attended I only knew the chants for WHO YOU? and CROOKED, along with singing a long with a few other songs.

Break out the dance moves!

Step 3: Get Your Partner On Board

HYPING ALONE IS NO FUN! My friend and her boyfriend was saying how I was going crazy. OF COURSE I WAS! Don’t be me, make sure your concert mates are on board with going crazy with you. Why else are you going to a concert… right? Get your friends to learn the fan chants and stuff too! Will make everything much.. MUCH more fun on concert day.

Step 4: Make New Friends

Now that you got your friend on aboard the hype train… get your concert seat neighbors to hop on too! You’ll call me crazy, but I’m not! I’ve done this before with the ONE OK ROCK concert and I shit you not, it was the best concert I’ve been to in my life. We built chemistry before the show so during the show you get a huge group on synchronize head bobbing and screaming. It was the best.

———————————-

Now what if you are a more reserved person and prefer to just sit and watch. That’s okay! (KINDA, NOT REALLY). But here is my take on this, I feel that paying for the concert tickets to just sit there and watch him perform is like flying to a foreign country just to watch TV in the hotel. Sure the purpose of vacation is to relax, but if you’re going to go to a live concert, you should try to participate some how! Remember, a great concert is not made only from the performer but that audience as well. You’re there to be a part of phenomenon not watch it happen. But most importantly, stay safe and have fun!

Like.. c’mon! How can you just sit there when he smiles like that!!

PS. I didn’t originally plan on writing a “How to” post.. I was going to complain about my mild frustration during the live concert.. But why not just express my mild frustration in a slightly more positive way if I can. Right?

The Art of Playlists

HondaiMood: Cool
Listening to: ちるちる – Reol
Playing: haven’t been playing 🙁
Craving: Blended Juices?
Watching: Bistro SMAP

I don’t think a lot of people consider creating playlists as a form of art.. but I do! Of course there are people out there who just dump a bunch of songs they want to listen to and call it a playlist (nothings wrong with that) but there are also people out there who take hours crafting a playlist based on a theme, feel, artist, color, anything really. I love finding people who make playlists like that.

To me, creating playlists is a way for me to explore music. With new music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify, it’s easier to discover new artists and songs. It also makes the process 10 times faster since I don’t have to run around looking for the perfect place to -cough cough- download a good copy of the single/album/EP and such. Though, it still takes me days to consider a playlist complete because of the testing process. I’d find songs, put it in, listen the whole playlist several runs and make sure a song doesn’t stand out or make you feel like skipping. I firmly believe that a playlist should flow like a constant stream, just like water! Of course it’s hard to find a song you don’t feel like skipping sometimes just because you’re not feeling it right at that moment, but that’s the point of the testing process! I might not feel it one time, other times I do. Then with several runs I can weigh whether the song is a boop or a keeper.

I also enjoy naming my playlists. Half of the time they have nothing to do with the theme though. It’s just fun giving it a name that will make people tilt their head \o\ woop. Creating playlists is a lot of fun and I hope I can share some to the world. That said, I do have some playlists on 8tracks, they’re gold certified too!! (woo) It’s like releasing a single and it get’s gold certified ( ; ~;)/ thanks guys, it makes me so happy someone enjoys my creation.

I’ll just leave my post popular one here. It’s called Nemurenai Yoru: One of those sleepless nights thinking about the days we had each other. I didn’t think this one would be popular since it was kinda scrappy but if a lot of people liked it, it means something right?!

Perfect Imperfections

HondaiMood: Fighting!
Listening to: Yes We Are – SMAP
Playing: Osu!
Craving: Bun Thit Nuong
Watching: Clip! SMAP!

Welcome to another スマロス post. I should make that a category. lol

Anyways, my dad caught me by surprise this weekend. He dropped the bomb saying “we got to clear everything off the floor by the 17th because they’re going to do our carpet that day.” The 17? That’s this Tuesday! A lot of people in my family are upset about my dad’s sudden announcement but I was just like eh, and did all I could. I’m not even mad I didn’t potato this weekend. I just packed stuff in boxes and move them downstairs.

While I was working with sorting and packing stuff I did find something enjoyable to do. Since my sister was staying over on Saturday Night, I moved the PS3 upstairs to our old room and blasted some SMAP Clip! On our first night we got through the first CD (this is actually my 2nd time watching the 1st CD) and man, it was a long journey. As you watch it, you can see how each and one of them grow and how they grow as a group. I really enjoyed watching their old live performances.

Unlike a lot of the boybands nowadays, SMAP did not debuted at #1. Not to mention their debut event was in a typhoon.. it was a disaster. Although these boys weren’t successful upon debut, they still hung on and kept going for years. I would say they finally reached their point of success in 1996, that’s 4 years after their debut. But even after they reached a peak, they didn’t stop and kept going.

My sister and I pondered as to why we became such huge SMAP fans. Is it their looks? Lol no way, our initial response to how they physically look is ‘they look funny’. I even remember being disappointed that they did not look cool. Is it their popularity? Nah, as popular as they are in Japan, they’re not known to people around us at all. Is it their music? I guess the music is one thing, but they honestly aren’t the best singers lol. SO, WHY?

When I look at KPop boy band and girl bands who are so dam perfect at what they do, I feel like an ant when I look at myself in the mirror. I hate it. It makes me feel like there are so many faults in myself and I feel stress that I have to achieve a certain level of coolness like these people. Of course I’m smart enough to put myself apart that they have CG, professional production, makeup, training, plastic and all that $$$ stuff to make them like that but thoughts in the back of my mind will always be there. But when I look at SMAP, their value as an idol is different. If you ask Japanese people, they’ll probably agree. Maybe I’m just like Japan who likes that がんばる attitude. Even today I can’t find a straight answer as to why I became a SMAP fan. But who can ever say for sure why they fall in love with someone, right? All I know is that all of their imperfections is what make them so perfect.
